Weddings

The United Church of Christ (Congregational) of San Luis Obispo has hosted many weddings and “celebrations of life” at the church. Following are specifics regarding the rental of the facility.

Your Wedding
We are happy to work with you in planning for your wedding at UCCSLO. A wedding is a time of celebration in which two people begin a marriage. Our intent in preparing for your wedding and your marriage is to help you begin your life together in understanding and joy. All of our policies regarding weddings are formed with that purpose in mind.

Consultation with the Minister
Before your wedding is officially scheduled, you will need to have a preliminary consultation with the church’s minister. At this time, you will discuss plans in general and have a chance to ask questions. Approximately three months (or more) before your wedding, you need to contact the minister who will conduct your wedding service.  When requested, clergy from another religious community may conduct or share in the wedding service upon approval of the minister of this church.

Place of Wedding
Weddings may be held in either the sanctuary or the church grounds. The sanctuary seats approximately 200 persons. There is an organ and a grand piano in the sanctuary; either or both may be used for the service.

Music
The organist of the UCCSLO can play for your wedding if so desired. You should make an appointment with the organist, who is responsible for reviewing all music, working under the direction of the minister.

Photographs and Video
Photographs or videos may be taken, using the available light during the ceremony.

Flowers and Candles
You are responsible for providing floral arrangements and candles.You are invited to leave your floral arrangements for Sunday worships; all other decorations must be removed immediately after the service.

Other Facilities
You are welcome to have your reception in the Fellowship Hall and on the grounds. Rooms are available for various parts of the bridal party to gather before the wedding ceremony.

Costs
Members of the UCCSLO make regular contributions for the support of the church and its ministry. Therefore, members are not charged for the use of church facilities, but they are asked to make payment to cover the costs for the organist, technical director, wedding coordinator (if applicable), soloist (if applicable) and Minister. Non-members are asked to cover all costs. A schedule of these costs is as follows:

STAFF
Minister: $200.00
Organist: $125.00 – Wedding, $50 – first rehearsal, $25 – rehearsals thereafter
Soloist: $100.00
Technical Director: $75.00 – Wedding, $50 – Rehearsal
Wedding Coordinator: $200.00

FACILITIES USE FEE
Sanctuary: $400.00
Fellowship Hall: $200.00 (seats 120-150 people)
Kitchen Use Fee: $100.00

* Facility Use Fees are payable to the UCCSLO and due in full to secure the calendar date. Payment to the staff are each paid individually and is required by the date of the wedding rehearsal.

**Facility Use Restrictions:
Do not distribute rice inside or outside the building.
Do not distribute bird seed inside the building.
Do not disturb chancel decorations or furnishings.
Hymnals, Bibles, etc., are not to be removed.
There is NO SMOKING anywhere in the buildings.
No alcoholic beverages are permitted
