The first production of 2011 for the God Is Still Speaking Players is “The Diary of Ann Frank.”

The Diary of Anne Frank is based on the writings of a young Jewish girl, Anne Frank, which chronicles the events of eight people, hiding from the Nazis in an attic annex in Amsterdam for 2 years.  It is a story of coming of age and growing up under extreme circumstances … it is a story of the awful things people can do to one another … it is a story of survival … it is a story of the strength of the human spirit … it is a story of hope (Photograph of Katherine Perello, taken by Danielle Dutro).

HISTORY

The “God Is Still Speaking” Players was established by Rev. Curt Miner and his wife, Linda, in the Fall of 2008 with the readers theatre production of the “Scopes Monkey Trial: What Really Happened.” The play examined creation versus Darwinism and what could be taught in the classroom. Local actors provided the reading to enthusiastic audiences.

Godspell Cast

The second production brought the musical “Godspell” to the church sanctuary.  Jesus, played by Justin Champeneau was surrounded by an all-female desciples cast, bringing a spin and a wonderful flavor to the classic. Loosely based on the Gospel of Matthew, UCC Godspell audiences enjoyed the signature song “Day-by-Day” and favorite “All Good Children.”

J.B.

In Fall 2009, another Reader’s Theatre of  the Pulitzer Prize play “J.B,” based on the book of Job as performed by outstanding local performers. A rather dark theme of faith, loss and redemption, J.B. explores good and evil in a Post WWII setting.
